AYURVEDA FOR SAGGING BREASTS

Sagging or drooping of breasts is a natural, inevitable process that happens to all women at some point. Breasts can start drooping a little at any age, because they do not have muscles in them. They have ligaments and connective tissue. When the gravity pulls the breasts down, those ligaments and the skin can stretch, and so the breast then droops.

This hits the woman’s self confidence and brings in a sign of ageing.

Causes of sagging breasts:
  • Poor posture
  • Improper support
  • Faulty diet
  • Improper breast-feeding
  • Ageing
Ayurveda for sagging breasts:

Ayurveda has natural cures for this and comes with no side-effects. It helps the ladies to bring their breasts back to shape and make them more confident.

Herbs which help to stimulate the growth of new breast tissue and help to tighten them are:
  • Shatavari
  • Ashoka
  • Lodhra
  • Amalaki
  • Methika
  • Shilajit
  • Lata Palasha
  • Vidari

These herbs possess natural breasts firming properties as they all contain phytoestrogens, which work like the women’s natural estrogen.

Ayurvedic medicines for sagging breasts:
  • Shatavari kalpa
  • Ashokarishta
  • Lodhrasava
  • Chyawanprash
  • Amalakyaadi ghritam
  • Vidaryadi ghritam
  • Ashwagandharishta
  • Saraswatarishta
These medicines help to refine and firm breast contours, thereby enhancing the body's youthful qualities.

(P.S.: Do not take any of these medicines before consulting any Ayurvedic doctor.)

Home remedies for sagging breasts:
  • Pomegranate oil: Take Pomegranate’s outer layer and clean that layer with water. Blend it with fresh drinking water to make a thick paste. Now keep this paste aside in a clean bowl. Take white mustard oil in such a proportion that it is half than the pomegranate paste. Mix the oil and pomegranate paste together well and boil this mix on a small flame until only oil remains. Massage this oil every day to the breasts in a circular movement at night times. This will make the breasts firm and tight. Use of this oil continuously for 8 weeks shows good results.
  • Fenugreek paste: Mix some fine powder of fenugreek (methi) with a little quantity of water to make a fine paste. Now apply this to both the breasts and rub lightly. Leave it for 10-15 min and then wash with clean water.
  • Raw ginger: Add 1 tsp of fresh ginger juice to 1 cup of warm cow’s milk. Having this milk every morning will improve the blood circulation in the breasts and thus will help to make them firm.
  • Banyan tree root paste: Take some fresh aerial roots of banyan tree. Clean it and add some water to make a thick paste. Apply it on the breasts at night. Keep some clean cotton on that area and wear a well supportive bra. Do it every day for 3 – 4 weeks. This will tighten the breasts.
Diet and Lifestyle guidance for sagging breasts:
  • A balanced diet: Protein intake is particularly important because protein is the building block for muscles and collagen, the supporting structures for the breasts. The fats found in olive oil should be substituted for animal fats whenever possible, and fresh fruits and vegetables should be consumed daily. Avoid alcohol and have a plenty of fiber to aid the digestive system. A good supplement which includes vitamins C and E, selenium, and beta carotene can also be an excellent source of antioxidants.
  • Wear a well supportive bra: Wear a good supportive bra every day, especially during breast feeding.
  • Maintain a healthy body weight: Try to maintain your body weight with help of healthy eating habits, Ayurveda, exercise and Yoga. Avoid doing yo-yo dieting, which causes the weight to fluctuate through the years, and can leave the breasts looking like a deflated balloon over a period of time.
  • Establish a Good Exercise program: Establish a good exercise program that incorporates weights to strengthen the muscles underlying the breast tissue. This may include isometric exercises like free weights, or push-ups, or pull-ups. Swimming also helps to tighten the chest muscles. All these exercises will help in delay of the sagging of the breasts.
  • Breast Firming Exercises:
  1. Pec Press: Using three- to five-pound weights, lie on your back, with knees bent. With your arms outstretched to each side, slowly bring your arms together, hold for one second and then slowly lower your arms again. Work your way up to three sets of 10 - 12 reps every other day.
  2. Butterfly Press: Take two to five pound weights. Sit on the edge of a chair with your back straight and arms at your sides. Slowly raise your arms to the side to shoulder level. Hold this position for a count of four, and then slowly return to starting position. Work your way up to three sets of five to seven reps every other day.
  3. Wall ups: These are done by standing about two feet from a wall, facing it. Place your hands at chest level flat against the wall. Now, lean slowly toward the wall using your arm and chest muscles to control your motion until you have your nose against the wall. Push back to your original position. Repeat this motion 15 times. To increase the effects of this exercise, when you reach the point of lean that stresses the chest muscles most (you'll feel it), pause and hold for a count of 10 or 15, then finish the motion.
  4. Pectoral Push-Ups: Lie face down on the floor and rise up, as if doing conventional push-ups, but keep your forearms and elbows on the floor. Hold for thirty seconds. Repeat five times. Inverted Push Ups: Stand with your legs two to three feet from a wall and your palms on the wall. Slowly lower your chest to the wall by bending your elbows and then slowly push your body back to starting position. Repeat 10-12 times.

  • Mild exercises during breast-feeding: Breast requires maximum attention after delivery. During that period it is not advisable to do exercises, so therefore one should perform light ones like mentioned below:
  1. Palm pressing: Kneel down and press your palms in 'Namaskar' (Indian greeting) pose in the center of chest so that the tissues around the breasts are under full pressure. Exhale slowly and release the pressure. Repeat the exercise.
  2. Wall ups: as mentioned above. But do it lightly, without pushing yourself too hard.
  3. Stand straight with arms dangling on your sides. Raise each arm above head and turn round alternately. Repeat ten to fifteen times.

  • Perform Yoga daily: The main three Yoga asanas which help in breast lifting are:
  1. Sarvangasana (The shoulder stand)
  2. Sirsasana (The head stand)
  3. Viparita karani (The inverted pose)
  • Care during breast-feeding: Breast-feeding mothers should take extra care. Breasts sag if the infant is suckled while sitting or reclining in a faulty posture. Sucking with sitting position should be done with the child in lap and your hand under its head so as to lift it and keep its head steady. Press nipples immediately after suckling and remove the remaining milk with a couple of jerks. This gives lightness and freshness to the breasts.
  • Hot-cold bath for breasts: Bath the breasts with hot and cold water simultaneously to ensure rapid blood circulation. Sprinkle hot water and then cold water four of five times alternately.
  • Massage the breasts: Massage the breasts with Almond oil each night to keep the skin supple and soft. This will help them to nourish and be firm, thereby preventing ageing signs like sagging or wrinkles.
Please note that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult any doctor before following any of these instructions.

AYURVEDA FOR INTRAHEPATIC CHOLESTASIS OF PREGNANCY (IPC)

Cholestasis of pregnancy is a condition in which the normal flow of bile in the gallbladder is affected by the high amounts of pregnancy hormones. Cholestasis is more common in the last trimester of pregnancy when hormones are at their peak, but it usually goes away within a few days after delivery.

What causes Cholestasis of pregnancy?

Pregnancy hormones affect gallbladder function, resulting in slowing or stopping the flow of bile. The gallbladder holds bile that is produced in the liver, which is necessary in the breakdown of fats in digestion. When the bile flow is stopped or slowed down, this causes a buildup of bile acids in the liver which can spill into the bloodstream.

What are the symptoms of Cholestasis of pregnancy?
  • Itching, particularly on the hands and feet (often is the only symptom noticed)
  • Dark urine color
  • Light coloring of bowel movements
  • Fatigue or exhaustion
  • Loss of appetite
  • Depression
  • Less common symptoms include:
  • Jaundice (yellow coloring of skin, eyes, and mucous membranes)
  • Upper-Right Quadrant Pain
  • Nausea
Who is at risk for Cholestasis of pregnancy?
1 to 2 pregnancies in 1000 are affected by cholestasis.
The following women have a higher risk of getting cholestasis during pregnancy:
  • Women carrying multiples
  • Women who have previous liver damage
  • Women whose mother or sisters had Cholestasis
How is Cholestasis of pregnancy diagnosed?
A diagnosis of cholestasis can be made by doing a complete medical history, physical examination, and blood tests that evaluate liver function, bile acids, and bilirubin.

How will the baby be affected if the mother is diagnosed with Cholestasis?
Cholestasis may increase the risks for fetal distress, preterm birth, or stillbirth. A developing baby relies on the mother’s liver to remove bile acids from the blood; therefore, the elevated levels of maternal bile cause stress on the baby’s liver. Women with cholestasis should be monitored closely and serious consideration should be given to inducing labor once the baby’s lungs have reached maturity.

Treatment for Cholestasis of pregnancy in Modern medicine:
The treatment goals for cholestasis of pregnancy are to relieve itching. Some treatment options include:
  • Topical anti-itch medications or medication with corticosteroids
  • Medication to decrease the concentration of bile acids such as ursodeoxycholic acid
  • Cold baths and ice water slow down the flow of blood in the body by decreasing its temperature
  • Dexamethasone is a steroid that increases the maturity of the baby’s lungs
  • Vitamin K supplements administered to the mother before delivery and again once the baby is born to prevent intracranial hemorrhaging
  • Dandelion Root and Milk Thistle are natural substances that are beneficial to the liver
  • Bi-weekly non-stress tests which involve fetal heart monitoring and contraction recordings
  • Regular blood tests monitoring both bile serum levels and liver function
Treatment for cholestasis of pregnancy needs to be determined by your physician who will take the following criteria into consideration:
  • Your pregnancy, overall health, and medical history
  • The extent of the disease
  • Your tolerance of specific medications, procedures, or therapies
  • Expectations for the course of the disease
  • Your opinion or preference
Treatments that should not be used for Cholestasis include:
  • Antihistamines
  • Aveeno and Oatmeal Bath
*There are conflicting views on using the medication Cholestyramine for treatment of cholestasis. In the past, this medication was readily used to treat this condition, but some studies have shown that Cholestyramine may not be as effective as other treatments and potentially has some adverse side effects such as blocking essential vitamins like Vitamin K (a vitamin that is already deficient in women with cholestasis).

Ayurvedic treatments for Cholestasis of pregnancy:
Ayurvedic medicines which can help in Cholestasis of pregnancy are as follows:
  • Arogyavardhini
  • Gomutra haritaki
  • Pathyadi kwath
  • Punarnava mandur
  • Shilajit
  • Guduchi
  • Haritaki
  • Panchatikta ghrita
  • Mahatikta ghrita
  • Bhumyamalaki
  • Navayas loha
  • Punarnavasava
They help in maintaining the bile levels, thereby reduces all the symptoms.

Diet:
The diet includes drinking at least 8-12 glasses of water a day, drinking warm water with the juice from half a lemon, eating an organic diet, getting plenty of fiber, fruits and vegetables with deep pigments, and avoiding sugar and artificial sweeteners.

Complications
Cholestasis in pregnancy increases the risk of stillbirth, fetal distress and preterm birth. For the mother, there is a risk of postpartum hemorrhage.

Risk Factors
Although the general risk of cholestasis in pregnancy is low, women who have prior liver damage, have had a sister or mother with cholestasis during pregnancy, and women who are carrying twins have a higher risk of developing this condition.

What are the chances of the mother getting Cholestasis in another pregnancy?
Whether or not a woman will get cholestasis in future pregnancies is debatable. However, some sources claim that women who have had cholestasis of pregnancy have up to a 90% chance of having this repeat in future pregnancies.

(P.S: As every human being is different according to Ayurveda, all have different cures. So, kindly consult us or an Ayurveda doctor before taking any herbal medicines.)

AYURVEDA CAN HELP AGENESIS OF CORPUS CALLOSUM (ACC)

What is agenesis of the corpus callosum (ACC)?

Agenesis of the corpus callosum is a congenital (lifelong) brain abnormality that occurs when the corpus callosum does not develop as it should during the early prenatal period. It can occur as an isolated condition or in association with other brain abnormalities or physical or medical conditions.

What is the corpus callosum?

The corpus callosum is the largest midline structure of the brain. It
  • Begins to develop around the 10th to 11th week of pregnancy
  • Consists of over 200 million nerve fibers that connect the two hemispheres of the brain
  • Transfers and integrates motor, sensory, and cognitive information between the cerebral hemispheres
  • Continues to mature throughout pregnancy and into childhood and adolescence

Epidemiology:
It is one of the most frequent malformations in the brain with a reported incidence ranging between 0.5 and 70 in 10,000 births.

Pathogenesis:
Formation of the corpus callosum begins as early as 6 weeks' gestation, with the first fibres crossing the midline at 11 to 12 weeks' gestation. The basic shape is completed by 18 to 20 weeks' gestation.

As yet unknown factors cause disruption to development of the fetal brain between the 3rd and 12th week of pregnancy. Potential causes may include chromosome errors, inherited genetic factors, prenatal infections or injuries, prenatal toxic exposures, structural blockage by cysts or other brain abnormalities and metabolic disorders.

Common characteristics associated with ACC:

The following lists identify characteristics commonly associated with ACC. Individual differences are common and not all persons with ACC will experience these characteristics.

Health-related/Physical:

  • Vision impairments (near/farsightedness, nystagmus, strabismus, problems with depth perception)
  • Low muscle tone (hypotonia)
  • Early feeding difficulties/gastric reflux/chewing and swallowing difficulties
  • Abnormal head and facial features
  • High tolerance to pain
  • Sleep difficulties (e.g. getting to sleep, nighttime waking, bed-wetting)
  • Seizures or spasticity
  • Hearing impairments
  • Elimination problems including chronic constipation
  • Less common: Genito-urinary defects, cardiac abnormalities, skeletal defects, metabolic disorders, genetic conditions.
Developmental:

  • Delays in attaining motor milestones such as sitting, walking, riding a bike
  • Early speech and language delays (particularly in expressive communication)
  • Clumsiness/poor motor coordination
  • Delayed toilet training
Social/behavioral:

  • Generally happy disposition, enjoys being with others
  • Socially immature
  • Lack of self awareness
  • Inability to take the perspective of others
  • Difficulties understanding and acting on the social cues of others
  • Difficulty maintaining attention
  • Restlessness or hyperactivity
  • Fearfulness
  • Obsessive/compulsive behaviors
  • Challenges with peer interactions and relationships that seem to increase with age and the complexity of the social situations.
Cognitive/Communication:

Although mental retardation can occur in association with callosal conditions, individuals with ACC may also have normal intelligence. Yet, research suggests that even those with isolated ACC and normal intelligence may experience subtle neuropsychological and cognitive challenges.

  • Early speech and language delays (particularly with expressive communication)
  • Misinterpretation of the nonverbal communication of others (i.e. their facial expressions or tone of voice)
  • Difficulties with complex tasks, abstract reasoning, problem solving (such as managing money and schedules, responding to novel  situations)
  • Limited insight into their own behavior and limitations
  • Difficulty imagining the consequences of their own behavior
  • Difficulty understanding abstract language/concepts
  • Difficulty understanding slang, sarcasm, and sophisticated humor
  • Difficulty understanding others’ perspectives and emotions
  • Confabulation (communicating information that is untrue while perceiving that it is true)
ACC Associated syndromes:

  • Aicardi syndrome
  • Arnold-Chiari malformation
  • Dandy-Walker syndrome
  • Andermann syndrome
  • Shapiro syndrome
  • Acrocallosal syndrome
  • Septo-optic dysplasia
  • Mowat-Wilson syndrome
  • Menkes syndrome
Diagnosis:

A brain scan is necessary to diagnose callosal conditions. Brain scans include:
  • Prenatal ultrasound
  • Prenatal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Computerized tomography (CT scan)
  • MRI (provides the most detailed information)
Prognosis:
The prognosis with ACC is variable. The condition does not cause death in the majority of patients. Although many children with the disorder lead normal lives nad have average intelligence. Children with ACC accompanied by developmental delay and/or seizure disorders should be screened for metabolic disorders. The mental retardation associated with agenesis of the corpus callosum is not progressive.

Treatment:
There are no specific treatments for agenesis of the corpus callosum (ACC) in modern medicine, but most patients will require input from a multidisciplinary team for management of ACC. This may include neurologists, neuropsychologists, ayurvedic doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, pediatricians, geneticists, specific schooling support and early intervention specialists.

Ayurveda therapies for ACC:
According to Ayurveda, ACC occurs due to Pitru beej dosha i.e. Genetic disorder.

There is no cure for ACC till now, but Ayurveda can definitely help such kids in all the aspects- physically, mentally and socially.

Ayurvedic medicines helpful in ACC are:

NEWS TO PROTECT AYURVEDA & UNANI

Biometric certificates to help track Ayurveda, Unani quacks

Mysore: Mar 3, 2013 DH News Service
Practitioners’ Board takes technology route to detect fake doctors
The Karnataka Ayurveda and Unani Practitioners Board has decided to distribute biometric registration certificates to doctors of these systems of medicine in a bid to crack down on quacks. The Board estimates the number of fake doctors in the State at more than one lakh.

The Board, which came into existence in 1965, has so far distributed manual certificates to 33,000 doctors and they will soon get biometric ones. Distributing smart cards with biometric registration will help check the increasing number of fake doctors, say Board officials.

The manual certificates, which had the doctor’s photo affixed, made it easy to duplicate them by replacing the photos. There is a huge racket operating in the State, selling fake certificates at Rs three lakh to Rs five lakh each.

Fingerprints and digital signatures of doctors enrolling themselves with the Board are taken and their marks cards scanned. The doctors’ pictures are taken with the help of the computers. All documents are then barcoded.

The certificates that are then generated will have a unique registration number, hologram, microprint, water mark logo , invisible logo, designed border and 2 D barcode.

Kiran Kumar, Managing Director of the V Works Software, Bangalore, has developed the necessary software, at a cost of Rs five lakh. Doctors can get the barcoded certificates online also, through the website: www.kaupboard.karnataka.gov.in. The barcoded certificates can be got even on mobile phones which have internet connection. This will make it easy to crosscheck for fake ones.

Board chairperson Dr Satyamurthy Bhat told Deccan Herald that they had taken such an initiative for the first time in the country, something that neither the Indian Medical Council nor the Karnataka Medical Council has done. Once the project is over, the Board will start raiding the clinics of fake doctors, he said.
