Ayurveda Cure for Thyroid

Thyroid gland is situated in the neck and produces a hormone called thyroxine, which helps in regulating body metabolism. The deficiency or excess of this thyroxine hormone causes various problems in our body.

Hyperthyroidism (excess thyroxine) is a condition which is more common in women of age group 30 to 50 years. Such individuals show any of the following symptoms:
  • Irritation
  • Over-anxiety
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Deep shallow respiration
  • Diarrhea
  • Heat intolerance
  • Flushing
  • Menstrual disturbance
  • Fatigue
  • Bulging of eyes

Hypothyroidism is a condition caused due to inactivity of thyroxine. This condition can be caused due to deficiency of iodine or thyroid failure or dysfunction of pituitary gland (a gland present in brain which regulates thyroid gland). Symptoms include: Fatigue; loss of vitality and overall hormonal imbalance. When hypothyroidism is left untreated for a long time it could result in Myxodema which is distinguished by swollen skin and tissues and bulging eyes.

One of the ailments that is very prevalent today and remedies for which exist in the ancient Ayurvedic texts is the problem of thyroid.

According to Ayurveda, taking adequate quantities of milk can help in preventing goiter (swelling in thyroid gland). Also rice, barley, bengal gram, moong dal and cucumber are recommended for patients suffering from goiter. They should strictly avoid heavy and sour foods. Herbs that are found useful in treatment of thyroid disorders include:
  • Kanchanar (Bauhinia Variegata)
  • Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi)
  • Shilajit (Asphaltum
  • Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri)
  • Gokshur (Tribulus terrestris)
  • Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa)
As a home remedy, a fine paste of vegetable jalakumbhi (water hyacinth) can be applied over the affected area and the juice of jalakumbi can be given a few times in a day. This has a high content of iodine, the deficiency of which causes goiter.

Coconut oil which contains medium chain fatty acids which help in improving body metabolism, is good for those suffering from hypothyroidism. The medicines used in Ayurveda for treating thyroid disorders include:
  • Kanchanar Guggulu
  • Ashwagandharishta
  • Amritadhaya taila
  • Mahayogaraj guggulu

Eating lots of raw fruits and vegetables, drinking hot ginger tea, avoiding an excess of dairy products like milk and cream, and not eating too many salty foods are all excellent remedies for controlling thyroid-related problems.

Apart from all this, yoga and pranayama are also found very helpful for curing thyroid problems.

Yogic aasanas for Thyroid problems:

1. Sarvangasana

2. Halasana

3. Supta-vajrasana

4. Surya namaskara

Cheapest way of weight loss & escaping this generation's diseases

Weight Loss, Sleep and Ayurveda: New research on an old Ayurvedic secret

As more and more people work hard to keep the pounds off, an interesting study shows that when you eat is just as important as what you eat for weight loss.

According to a study recently published by researchers at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, mice dropped 40% of their weight just by not eating after 7:00 p.m.
This is a familiar idea for those of us who have been practicing Ayurvedic principles.
sleeping-girl-photo-by-Rachel-CalamusaIn Ayurvedic terminology, the daily routine (called dinacharya in Sanskrit. Pronounced ‘dee-na-chari-a’), is structured around basic rhythms of the sun, moon and your body. These rhythms are powerful indeed and good things happen when we respect these natural cycles.
For instance, one of the major principles of the Ayurvedic daily routine is to eat your main meal at noon, when the sun is at its zenith and the digestive fire is strongest inside you. (Another secret to healthy weight: a strong digestive fire, or agni) And a corollary to that is: eat light at night, early in the evening, and allow your digestive system to cleanse and repair itself all through the night while you sleep.
sleeping-cat-photo-by-Liz-WestThis study is a great validation of the power of these age-old insights, and the simple, natural principles of Maharishi Ayurveda. Sleep is considered a significant period for daily natural detoxing; and Ayurveda has long recommended herbs and other modalities to support ideal deep sleep and strong digestion.
Life in tune with the rhythms of nature has multiple benefits. Healthy weight may just be one of them.
When this was researched on mice, the data suggested:
1. In mice eating till late nights; the stomach, the brain and the body's digestive machinery need to take a break from managing incoming fuel; otherwise, we may be working ourselves into a state of metabolic exhaustion. When it's combined with high-calorie, high-fat diest, the result is weight gain, a liver clogged with fat, accumulation of cholesterol in the arteries and unused glucose in the blood.
2. In mice who fasted for 16 hours daily; measures of digestive hormones, cholesterol and glucose suggested that liver enzymes were working hard to break down cholesterol into bile acids anf the extra fats were burned too.
Thus, the results of daily fasting were "phenomenal".
This same principle was also been followed by our ancestors. They ate mostly in daytime, but now our social life starts after evening. So, essentially we have increased our eating time in the last few years.
The best cheapest cure for obesity and escaping from the silent killer's like diabetes, High cholesterol levels, Hypertension, etc. which is spread today all over the world is extending the nighttime fast and doing the simple dietary adjustments.

BABY CARE WITH AYURVEDA

Massaging or bathing your baby is the most enjoyable moment in one's life. Massaging not only helps in improving your baby's health but also helps in the mother-child bonding. Massaging is usually followed by a bath and this is the time when you can play with your baby, sing songs, splash water, teach him new words etc. Some babies do make a tantrum as they do not like to take a bath, so it is upto you to make it the most interesting and enjoyable moment for both you and your baby.

Abhyanga (Oil Massage)
Oil massage improves complexion, promotes growth and strength. Massage at night relieves exhaustion and helps the baby to get sound sleep. Neonate and infants should be given daily oil massage with Tila oil medicated with the following herbs: Bala, Sthira, Renukabija, Lotus, Brhati, Tarkari, Mustard, Kastha, Saindhava, Asvagandha, Sahadeva, Castor, Apamarga, Kapikacchu seed and Goat's milk.
Oil drops should also be instilled in the ears and in the mastoid region daily and then covered with a cotton swab soaked in Tila oil.

The following oils are used according to the constitution of the child:
  • Vatta constitution   : Tila oil.
  • Pitta constitution    : Coconut oil.
  • Kapha constitution : Mustard oil.

The baby should be daily given a bath with warm water medicated with Jivaniya group of medicines and you could also add decoction of the skins of KsheeriVruksha, i.e. Banyan tree, Pipala, Udumbara and fragrant herbs like Sandalwood and Valaka              You could also use water warmed by dipping hot gold or silver rods in it.
Dhoopana (Fumigation)
After bath, the baby should be exposed to the smoke of the fragrant medicines. The fumigation or dhoopan methods are mainly aimed at sterilizing the environment. Some of the dhoopan yogas are claimed to have vitalizing, enlivening and invigorating properties too.
Dhoopan is served generally by burning a combination of drugs of herbal, animal and mineral origin, in or near the place where young babies are kept. They release medicated fumes and sterilize the air for prophylactic and curative purposes.
Drugs used for dhoopan in children are different gums and oleo-resins like bedellium, cedar-gum, lacca; valerian bark; lappa root; sweet flag; margosa leaves; basil leaves; sandalwood; and animal products like snake skin, hairs, horns, dried excreta and nails of different animals.

News: Ayurveda for Alzheimer's

THE TIMES OF INDIA. March 5, 2012

NEW DELHI: The late US President Ronald Reagan had it; former Union minister George Fernandes is battling it, and actor Amitabh Bachchan made it a street word with his role in the 2005 movie Black. But a cure for Alzheimer's - a degenerative disorder of the brain - may be around the corner, going by the results achieved in studies at the National Brain Research Centre (NBRC).

The disorder marked by memory and judgment loss usually occurs in people older than 65, and has defied a cure so far. But researchers working with the extract of a herb used inAyurveda since ancient times have reported promising results. Using an extract of the Ashwagandha root on mice with Alzheimer's disease, NBRC scientists found it can reverse memory loss and may prove to be an effective cure for the disease in humans.

NBRC neuroscientist Vijayalakshmi Ravindranath tested the semi-purified sample extracted atDelhi University on genetically modified mice with Alzheimer's disease. Two sets of test mice - middle aged (9-10 months) and old (2 years) - were given oral doses of the extract for 30 daysand monitored. Over the month, scientists found a reduction in amyloid plaques (a symptom of Alzheimer's) in the mice brains and improvement in the animals' cognitive abilities. Their study was published recently in the Proceedings of The National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), and the Nature India Journal.

The mice used for the experiment carry the mutation that is characteristic of Alzheimer's disease and produce the amyloid in greater quantities.

"We got the mice from Jackson Labs in US. They were tested on a radial arm maze, where they are trained to go and pick food from four of the maze's eight arms. Since the mice had Alzheimer's, they were neither able to learn nor retain the learning. But after 20 days of the Ashwagandha treatment, we noticed a difference, and after 30 days they had started behaving normally," said Ravindranath, former founder-director of NBRC, and chairperson of Centre of Neurosciences, Indian Institute of Science

She explained that the extract didn't work directly on the brain. It enhanced a protein in the liver that is thrown out in the blood and acts like a sponge to pull out the amyloid from the brain. "I am very interested in Ayurveda. This experiment gives us hope," Ravindranath said.

The NBRC's results have also boosted morale at DU's Natural Products Laboratory. "Professor Vijayalakshmi had approached us to evaluate some plants and their effect on neurological disorders. Most medicines that are currently being used for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's are synthetic drugs that have some side effects," said professor Subhash Chand Jain of Delhi University. The team at DU selected the root of Ashwagandha and followed up with a series of extractions at the lab.

"We did the extraction using a solvent system. And then it was further fractionalized to see which fraction was most active. At this point, Vijayalakshmi was very excited because she saw that some of the fractions were active. Then we worked on pinning down the fraction that was most active," Jain said.

Get child as you always dream with help of Ayurveda

                               PUNSAVAN SANSKAR

Planning for the Baby is the most important point comes first after marriage towards the couple. If you are one of the couples who think about planning for child, that is pleasurable and VishwaCARE greets you and pray to God for helping you as your choice of baby and he help you to choose the best ever.
We appreciate that you decided to go for child with the best thinking and planning. Because of most of couples have first child is the result of and unexpected pregnancy. You must have interest in the subject related getting child as per our dreams and if it is second or third child, commonly our thinking goes to gender selection also. But, the question is can we do it? Or if yes, how can it be possible? Before answering these questions, we want to share such thinking from Ayurveda: An ancient Indian system of Medicine. Most of couples have question only on the male or female child, but the important question would be how we can get child best ever. What are the guidelines for making our child genius, clever, Intelligent, cultured, civilized, Polite all qualities to make itself best ever?
Age of Ancient India, Ayurveda and all Vedas of Indian cultures makes more important on quality of the next generation and The Rushis of Ancient India are all time alert for producing the best Generation in society. Thus, Ayurveda mentioned many ideas for getting best child and also of our choice of Gender.
PUNSAVAN SANSKAR is mentioned in the ancient texts of Ayurveda which describes that we can get a happy and healthy child of our choice if done a good planning. For making our society healthy and fully developed; our ancient Saints have gifted us with the most important sixteen ‘Sanskars’. “Punsavan” Sanskar is one of those 16 sanskars described by ancient saints of India.
There are two principles of ‘Punsavan Sanskar’.
1. Best Child
2. Child as your desire- Male OR Female
remember that the first concept of this sanskar is BEST child, if you not willing in the gender selection, however you should think for punsavan for BEST child.

1. Best Child: Every couple wishes that their child would be best ever among the all children of their age. Ayurveda thinks in three ways for best qualities :
(a) Physical Health: Physical health is not only depends on the weight of the child, but will be based on the Immunity power of the body.
Making body healthy by developing immunity is one of the best concepts of Ayurveda. When we compare the child of Punsavan Sanskar with other children, we find that this child is more able to fight with the epidemic or any infectious conditions. Even if the couple suffers from any hereditary diseases or if they are carrier of it, Punsavan can provide a protection for the child from it.
(b) Mental Health: Any one wants to make their child Genius, Intelligent, Sharp, and Clever and have more grasping and sharper memory. Punsavan Sanskar has the concept of best mental development in it. Our ancient saints also describe “Suvarnaprashan Sanskar” after the birth of child to get the best mental and physical health.
(c) Sanskar: Sanskar makes the child cultured, civilized, and polite. The best characters of Ancient Indian culture like Ram, Krishna, Arjun, Yudhisthir, Eklavya, Dhruv, Prahalad, etc. are the best examples of Indian rituals and among of all sanskars described by Indian Saints.
2. Getting Desired Child: In this concept you can select gender of your next child.
Whenever we think on the gender selection; you must understand that there is not any miracle, any recipe, suspicion, superstition, but this therapy is the based on pure scientific concepts. Indian saints develop this idea based on deeply knowledge of Medical science, embryology and theory of hereditary. Punsavan therapy has logical conviction about this treatment. We should make trust on Ayurveda, because today’s modern science will be changed in nearby future, but Ayurveda has no need of changes in its basic principles and those medicines already work today also. Result is the proof of perfection and Ayurveda gives always fantastic result. So don’t under estimate Ayurveda by our limitation of understanding this science. We never major Ayurveda’s limitation by our limited knowledge. Our Scientists are working hard to understand this theory. Hope, they will be success in nearby future and we can prove the truth of the Great Science. So, mean time why we have to ignore this? Our Saints have not any greed of any incentive for their great invention, so they never go for ‘Patent’.
Well, now we have to understand whole theory in terms of Ayurveda. There are three steps for the treatment of male  or female child. The Couple should understand and have to make passion while this treatment.
First Step….
Normally the fetus in uterus is the result of the conception of both male sperm and female ovum. Thus, the gender and qualities of fetus are depends on both father-mother’s seed, which incarnate the whole profile of fetus. As per the rule of nature strongest genes depress the symptoms of weak genes. Thus, as per this theory the male sperm must be stronger than the ovum. So, panchkarma therapies are used to detoxify both the partners & then Ayurvedic treatments are given to make the sperm & ovum stronger and free of any hereditary diseases.
Investigations of both the partners is advised so as to find out if there is any problem with the sperm & ovum. The male partner has to investigate his semen analysis. The count and motility of sperms must be more than normal limits. If the male does not find same report, then Ayurvedic medicines are given for getting the level of qualitative and quantitative sperms.
At the same time female sex hormone levels also have to define. If FSH, LH and Prolactin are more than normal values, treatment requires. In both male and female treatment Ayurveda medicines are more effective without any side effects. The couple must have to use any contraceptives during this step. And the use of condom is most reliable.
Second Step:-
In this step, couple has to prepare themselves for conception. Intercourse on specific days with specific diet and instruction is most important thing in this step.
Calculating the days of intercourse is more complicated, so the couple has to avoid self calculation. You should take help of expert of this field. Calculation  depends on menstruation cycle and the nature of ovulation. Normally if the female has regular and timely periods without any complications, then the even days after the menses are the days for conception for male child and the odd days are for female. The first day of bleeding has to count as the first day for calculation. Couple has to choose the nearest days of ovulation. Till you don't conceive, you should try in the same manner every month.
Third Step:-
After conception this step starts for three and half month’s treatment for the male or female child and till delivery for the best & healthy child.
There are five parts of this treatment :
1.      Detoxification with Panchkarma therapies
2.    Ayurvedic treatments
3.    Diet chart
4.    Good Lifestyle
5.      Nasal drops- To be taken on specific days of Pushya nakshatra.

After these five steps, couple is eligible for getting the child as their dream with Gods blessings.

Shirodhara- An Ancient secret of Rejenuvation

   SERENE SHIRODHARA

Practised for over 5000 years, shirodhara massage originates from India and is based on the ancient principles of Ayurvedic medicine. Translated from the Sanskrit as a holistic healing science, Ayurveda aims to harmonise the body, mind, senses and soul.

Ayurveda may be an ancient Indian therapy but its appeal is thoroughly modern. This holistic system of diet, herbal remedies and massage has been a big hit with thousands of celebrities, spa-goers and harried workers all around the world, looking to regain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
Shirodhara is a luxuriant and easy way to achieve instant calm and rejuvenation. It derives from two Sanskrit words: shiro and dharaShiro means head and dhara means to flow. It involves the warm and consistent flow of aromatic oils on the forehead, specifically on the ‘third eye’. This is the chakra point just above and between the eyebrows. It is said to be the seat of human consciousness. The oils are allowed to flow over the scalp and through the hair, creating a blissful sensation.
VishwaCARE offers Shirodhara with a comfortable and tranquil environment & with serene atmospheric background music & soft treatment table.
Lying on your back, your body will be cocooned in warmed towels and your head will be positioned under the oil ‘fountain’ – a neem wood bottle with a slow-flowing spout from which the oils will stream gently onto the forehead.
The soothing and fragrant oils flow in a continuous, rhythmic stream for approximately 40 minutes – you’re guaranteed to be transported to a calm place in no time! The herbal oils will flow back freely, also nourishing the hair and scalp before they are captured in a basin below.
All your mental demons – fear, anxiety, anger or irritability – dissolve into an ocean of calm as your mind is lulled into a state of serenity and expanded consciousness.

As the oil strokes the third eye, it has a balancing effect on the deepest recesses of the brain, stimulating the endocrine system, the pituitary and pineal glands (for hormonal upsets) and pleasure neurotransmitters (for depression or emotional insecurity). The procedure is also said to synchronise alpha brain waves, enhancing blood circulation to the brain, improving mental clarity and generally releasing deeply trapped ama, or toxins.
You are then left for a few minutes to relax and assimilate the experience. Best of all, you’ll emerge with a heightened state of awareness and a long-lasting sense of peace to equip you for any of life’s challenges. Shirodhara truly honours the body as a sacred temple and a vehicle for the divine spirit within.
